Care for a work-related injury.
A work injury can affect everyday activities as well as the tasks you do on the job. At Keep Me Walking Physiotherapy in Elizabeth Park, assessment and rehabilitation can be discussed around your symptoms, current abilities and recovery goals.
Tell your physiotherapist about your role, the movements involved and any advice or restrictions from your treating doctor. Relevant care may include back and neck physiotherapy or individual exercise rehabilitation, depending on your assessment.
Check the claim arrangements first.
In South Australia, work injury claims are commonly described as WorkCover claims. ReturnToWorkSA provides information about treatment under the Return to Work scheme. For an accepted claim, support may be available for treatment that is reasonable, necessary and related to the work injury.
Check your claim status with your claims manager or insurer and ask whether the proposed service needs prior approval. Requirements vary by service; some appointments and additional services need specific approval. Contact our team to confirm the booking and billing arrangements before treatment.
Bring the information that helps us plan.
- Your claim number and the name of your claims manager or insurer.
- Any referral from your GP or treating doctor, plus written approval where required.
- Your current work capacity certificate and any recovery or return to work plan.
- Relevant reports, scans, surgery instructions or a previous exercise plan.
- A description of your usual work tasks and the activities you are finding difficult.
If your claim is still being assessed, call before booking to discuss payment. The insurer does not pay under this scheme where a claim has not been accepted, so you may need to pay for the appointment yourself.
Set practical rehabilitation goals.
Your appointment begins with a discussion of the injury and its effect on your life. Assessment may consider movement, strength and the tasks relevant to your concerns. Your physiotherapist explains the findings and discusses suitable options with you.
A plan may include exercise, advice about activity and reviews of your progress. Goals can relate to everyday movement and the demands of work. The pace of rehabilitation depends on your injury, response and treating team’s advice.
Keep your care team informed.
Explain any changes in symptoms, duties or medical advice at your reviews. Where appropriate, relevant physiotherapy findings and progress can be discussed with your treating doctor and claims team, with the necessary consent and arrangements.
Work capacity certification and decisions about approved treatment follow the relevant medical and claim processes. Discuss changes to duties with the professionals managing your recovery and return to work.
Helpful questions.
Can I book if I do not have a claim number yet?
Call us first. Tell the team that the claim is pending so the documents, appointment options and payment arrangements can be clarified before treatment.
Does choosing WorkCover online mean treatment is approved?
No. The booking selects an appointment type. Your claim status, any required treatment approval and billing arrangements still need to be checked before treatment.
What if I need rehabilitation after surgery?
Bring your surgeon’s instructions and relevant reports. Our post-operative rehabilitation page explains how assessment can be planned around your recovery stage.
